KAMAS, Utah — A South Summit High School senior has made it to the semifinals of a national competition that honors the nation’s most distinguished high school graduates.
Dayton Fry is one of only eight Utah high school students selected as a U.S. Presidential Scholar Award semifinalist. The mountain biker, track athlete, and “Science Guy” was one of 4,000 applicants nationwide. “Not just anyone can apply; it’s by invitation only,” said a news release from South Summit School District.
Fry’s nomination came from his high school advisor, Mrs. Regan. He has been in the demanding application process since. Fry will find out later this month if he is a finalist for the award.
The Presidential Scholar Program was created by executive order of the President in 1966. It is “a program to recognize and honor some of our nation’s most distinguished graduating high school seniors.”
